Emotions are like states of body temperature, they are like extreme heat or extreme cold: They can be very unpleasant and perhaps we can tell ourselves that being hot or cold is horrible or unbearable.
It is annoying many times, but we know that from time to time we have to go through it, especially in certain places or certain times of the year; but we do not give it more importance, because we recognize that they are temporary and there will be moments of the day, places or times of the year in which our body temperature is regulated and generates well-being.
But the truth is that the sensations of heat or cold can reappear at any time, that is inevitable. The heat and the cold are fluctuating, and sometimes they are more uncomfortable, but we manage to accept these states.
Likewise, there are emotions such as fear, sadness, disgust, surprise, etc., and sometimes we are going to have to experience them in some situations, they also fluctuate in our existence. So why aren't we as forgiving of our own emotional states as we can be when we're hot or cold? Emotions, like heat and cold, are nothing more than states, sometimes annoying, and their importance lies in the fact that they give us information about an experience.
In psychotherapy, in addition to learning to manage your emotions so that you maintain your mental health, you can also recover the quality of life when your emotions overwhelm you.
